Eating Out in Chester

Chester has a pretty diverse range of excellent eateries. During lockdown, we tried to support local independent restaurants by ordering from those able to pivot their operations to takeaways. Having set up my business during lockdown, I understand the struggle! There is a strong sense of community amongst the catering and hospitality businesses here in Chester and it’s lovely to be a part of it. Aside from supporting local businesses, as much as I enjoy cooking, a good takeaway fills the gap when my energy levels have run low and my brain has been emptied of inspiration. A meal out (or in during the last year) is still our favourite way of celebrating a special occasion.

In no particular order, some of the places we love most are:

-Pacino’s

An Italian restaurant with yummy food, friendly service and a family feel. It very much reminds me of my parent’s restaurant but serving Italian instead of Chinese food. We had the meal for Gordon’s 40th birthday here. It’s tucked away on a quiet residential street so we sometimes forget about going there when looking for somewhere to eat. They have weekly specials that are always worth trying. The homemade filled pastas are spectacular.

-Hamayuu

A new Japanese restaurant for the best Sushi around and again the ladies who run it are super friendly. It only opened this year and I can’t recommend it enough! The Takoyaki and Salmon sushi burrito is my go-to order

-Weston Grove Fish and Chips

Richard, Josette and their team make fabulous award-winning fish and chips and the best homemade tartar sauce ever! We also love their scampi and chicken bites. They’re always happy to make recommendations and they’ve adapted so well to click and collect orders. They have gluten free options too. They’re brilliant all round!

-Thai By Thai.

Run by a family of Thai ladies, their food is authentic and so tasty. Watching them cook reminds me of cooking and bickering at home with my Mom and Aunts. I love their Pad Thai (perfect balance of sweet, spicy, salty and sour), Suki Yaki (super spicy) and their mango sticky rice reminds me of being on honeymoon in Bangkok.

Actually, all the vendors in Chester Market are brilliant, Guroma, The Pastry Pedaleur, Death By Tacos, Jeffros wingz and tingz and the Exotic Booze Club are some favourites.

-NiceBites

These guys are also in Chester Market currently. They are cheeky and funny and they make deliciously dirty loaded burgers, fries and hotdogs. Their burgers are the best in Chester in my opinion. Their fries are always perfect too, crisp, hot and perfectly seasoned. Bonus mention to the pretzel with dipping cheese, it’s divine!

-Stile Napoletano

Amazing Neapolitan style pizza, they started out in Chester market but now have a restaurant of their own. Their dough is deliciously soft and chewy and the toppings perfectly proportioned. My favourite pizza in Chester.

-Hanky Panky Pancakes

These guys serve not just indulgent pancakes but also brilliantly fresh, flavourful and inventive Indian food too. Their pancakes are the stuff of dreams. I also love the new Kati rolls. Stephen and Rekha are two of the loveliest people and their family run café is one of my favourite brunch places.

-Cote Brasserie

This is our favourite chain restaurant. We were invited there to try their menu for free during their soft opening on their first week of trade and they got us to come back as regular customers. They serve reliably good French dishes. It’s where we went to celebrate after having the offer on our house accepted. The service and food are always impeccable. Their Cote at Home service gave us lovely things to look forward to during lockdown.

-Pierogi

A tiny cafe run by a husband and wife team, selling the best Polish dumplings I’ve ever had. Highly recommend getting the mixed savoury ones to try tall the fillings and a portion of the sweet ones too. They’re so good! They will also sell you them cold to be cooked at home if you prefer. My favourite is probably the simple potato and cheese along with the sweet cheese and raspberry.

There are loads of other lovely places to eat out in Chester. I’ve probably forgotten many that we also go to. What are your favourite places to go for a meal in Chester?
